Winter Storm Warning Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective today until 6:00 p.m. CT.  Travel this afternoon, in fact for the next couple of days will be discouraged.  Expect up to 2 inches of sleet accumulation and up to 1/2 inch of ice over the next couple of days.  Residents should take the time early today to prepare for this weather emergency by making certain your emergency kits are ready.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM CST TUESDAY FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES…

IN OKLAHOMA…

OSAGE…WASHINGTON…NOWATA…CRAIG…OTTAWA…PAWNEE…TULSA…ROGERS…MAYES…DELAWARE…CREEK.  

SLEET OR A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON. TOTAL SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE NEAR THE KANSAS AND MISSOURI BORDERS WITH AMOUNTS TAPERING OFF TO THE SOUTH AND WEST. SLEET AMOUNTS OF AROUND AN INCH MAY OCCUR IN THE TULSA AREA WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS UP TO 2 INCHES NORTH OF TOWN. SOME ICE ACCUMULATION MAY ALSO OCCIR ON TREES AND POWER LINES. UP TO 1/4 INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH LOCALLY IHGHER AMOUNTS ALONG AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 44.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER IS EXPECTED OR IS OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
