Cold front, Dixie Chicks, iPhone 7

You can see the front as it began to move into the Tulsa area

As this week draws to an end, the rain chances for this weekend are ending as well.  A cold front moved through yesterday bringing us much needed rain and cooler temperatures.  It was only 67° this morning.  Fall is here and the weather may begin showing those signs.

I also got a little update on the earthquake last weekend.  The USGS upgraded the magnitude to a 5.8., the largest earthquake in Oklahoma history.  Several injection well sites have been shut down in an effort to reduce the number of quakes happening in Oklahoma and surrounding states.  Evidently, 17 states felt the 5.8.

It’s about time state and federal governments admitted to the link between the fracking process and increased earthquake activities.  The USGS reported they’d found a new fault line.  Hmmmm.

The Dixie Chicks were in town last Thursday and so was my daughter.  She, and a couple of her teacher friends, came down for the concert.  Of course I couldn’t let her come to town without meeting them for dinner and priming before the show.  We met at Naples Flatbread (yes that’s where Susan, Steve and I met before the Coldplay concert a couple of weeks ago) and then we ate, drank and had a great time.  If anyone tells you that grade school teachers don’t party, they’d be wrong.  But, if you’re told they’re underappreciated and underpaid, listen.  They’d be 100% correct.  No, I didn’t go to the concert.  The Chicks aren’t on my bucket list.

After dinner, the girls headed to the concert and I headed home.  Liza wasn’t too happy that I was so late.  Oh well.  Is she EVER happy?  I’m thinking not.

Liza had her dinner and I remembered that the pre-sale for the new iPhone was in a few hours.  I don’t think I took that into account while drinking the margaritas at Naples.  It was going to be a very long evening.

I set the alarm for midnight and took a nap to get a little sleep before the iPhone 7 pre-sale happened at 12:01.  Obviously I wasn’t thinking clearly after the libations earlier…it was 12:01 pacific time.  When the alarm sounded, I found that I was up two hours early.  I didn’t lay down again because I was afraid I’d sleep through another alarm, so I fixed some coffee and and caught up on YouTube videos while I waited it out.

It’s been a few years since I was excited about a new Apple product.  There’s been significant changes to this phone – and the watch – to warrant both the excitement and the cost.  First is the camera, now 12 mp.  Then it’s the combination of the hardware changes made with the 6S and the 7, and it’s more water and dust resistant.  The watch is now waterproof to 50M.  Great improvements for storm chasing.  Hush.  That’s the excuse I’m using.

Around 2:20 in the morning, the Apple web site finally came to life and I was able to get my order in for the new phone and the series 2 watch.  I’ll get the phone next Friday and the watch at the end of the month.

Of course when I ordered the new gear, the carriers (including AT&T) said they would no longer subsidize phone purchases.  That meant I’d have to pay full price for the phone.  That’s what I’d planned on and that’s what I did.  Their reasoning?  People would finally realize how much these phones actually cost.  Little did I know, on Friday they back-peddled and decided to subsidize the new iPhone 7.  That news came a little too late for me.  I’d already ordered.

The alarm to start my workday sounded at 5:00 a.m.  I hit the snooze until 6.  Ugh.  Long day at the office.  Yes, when I got home after work, I took a two-hour nap.

This morning I’m doing the weekend chores, laundry, dishes, etc.  You know, the fun stuff.  All the stuff I procrastinated about or was just too lazy to do through the week.  I’m also doing the dreaded maintenance on my desktop (only 2 hours and 18 minutes to go) listening to the Tanis podcast (gotta catch up) and writing you guys.  I also learned how to move pics from my iPhone to the iMac with AirDrop.  Pretty slick.

The rest of the weekend I’m visiting with my sister who is here from California.  I’m looking forward to that and, of course, Mom’s cooking.

I hope all of you enjoy your weekend too!  Stay safe and take care of each other.
