Storm chasers killed in Texas

Three storm chasers lost their lives while chasing storms near Spur, Texas today.  Kelley Williamson and Randall Yarnell of Cassville, Missouri and Corbin Jaeger of Peoria, Arizona were killed in the two vehicle accident.  It’s being reported that Williamson ran a stop sign, causing the fatal crash.

Williamson and Yarnell were contractors for The Weather Channel.

After learning of the accident, The Weather Channel released the following statement,

This afternoon we learned that three people died in a car accident in Texas, including two contractors for the Weather Channel, Kelley Williamson and Randy Yarnall. Kelley and Randy were beloved members of the weather community. We are saddened by this loss and our deepest sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of all involved.

Yes, storm chasing is inherently dangerous and letting your guard down for even a split second can turn an exciting chase into a tragic event.

My thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends.
