I’ve been listening to all of the whining today because President Trump ordered a phase-out of the Obama DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. Obama wrote this executive order in 2012 because the legislature would not resolve immigration issues, effectively bypassing congress. In the United States we have a process to establish new laws – a president’s frustration with congress does not give him powers to write law without them. That’s the bottom line.
Although DACA could have been immediately suspended today, that’s not what the President wanted. What Trump has done is to map a 24 month phase-out of the executive order and he is giving congress 6 months to pass legislation to resolve the issue and make a DACA-derivative enforceable law. That’s what should have happened in 2012.
So, calm down. This is a legal matter that MUST be corrected. Trump is not going to deport all of the eligible children today. There’s time to work this out if Congress gets their shit together. If they stonewall each other, then we’ll have a problem.
If you want congress to do something about this, then write your representatives. Tell them how you feel. Tell them to act now.

Let’s go back in history to June 15, 2012. President Obama is in the Rose Garden explaining his DACA order. It was never meant to be a permanent solution.
