Winter Storm Watch Issued — Yes, it's spring.

That’s right.  The National Weather Services has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area.  The watch could turn into a warning on Saturday.

It’s hard to believe that on Monday we were chasing springtime thunderstorms and now we’re forecasting a major winter snow storm for northern Oklahoma.  In fact, the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas and much of southwest Kansas are under a blizzard warning!

Here’s the watches and warnings for Oklahoma at 0143Z.  Aren’t all the the colors pretty?

All I can say is:  this is Oklahoma and the weather can change at a moments notice, and winter isn’t over until it’s over.

Severe thunderstorms are forecast for Friday and after the thunderstorms pass we’ll be dealing with snowfall amounts of up to 6 inches in our area.  Right now the heaviest snowfall is expected in Osage and Pawnee counties.

Temperatures will drop Friday night into the low 30’s.  The high temperature on Saturday will struggle to reach the mid 30’s.

And, as it usually happens in Oklahoma during the spring, a warming trend will begin on Monday, bringing with it — yes — chances of thunderstorms.

Is this the last hurrah for old man winter?  That, my friends, is any one’s guess.
