NOAA and NWS budget cut vote on Tuesday

Texas Senator (figures) Kay Bailey Hutchison has introduced amendment 2666 to HR 2847 which would cut funding to NOAA and the NWS by $172M.  This comes at a time when staffing levels are at a minimum and the systems used in reporting and forecasting severe weather and old and antiquated.  These agencies need MORE funding, not less.

If the proposed funding cuts are approved, the level of service provided by NOAA and the NWS will be reduced and implementation of new and replacement technologies will suffer.  Cuts will hamper the ability of these agencies to adequately and promptly notify the public of approaching severe weather.  Lives will be lost unnecessarily.

Reuters reported, “The funds would be diverted to the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program rather than being used to reduce the deficit.”

Write your state senators, asking them to vote NO on this amendment.

We must not sacrifice public safety to divert funds to a program to support criminal aliens, give them a one-way-ticket out of the country.  Enough is enough.  Write your Senator now!
