Severe weather possible on Friday

I’ve been looking at the models and various forecasts this evening and there’s a good chance we’ll have a few severe thunderstorms passing through ahead of the cold front tomorrow; the risk increasing after noon as the daytime heating occurs.  It looks like the greatest risk will be hail up to 2″ in diameter and gusty winds, but I’m not ruling out the possibility of tornadoes either; the area at greatest risk being to be south and to the east of the Tulsa area.

Overnight tonight the low temps will be around 62° with gusty winds and a chance of thunderstorms to the west of our area, in Region 2, moving to our area tomorrow morning.  The high on Friday will be in the low 70s, with gusty winds around 32 mph.  It’s possible that we could see wind gusts to 60 mph as the storms push through.  Rainfall could be heavy at times with a total accumulation of up to 2″ locally by the time the system moves out of our area to the east late Friday night and early Saturday.

The setup isn’t ideal for storms of the chasing type — I’d rather see higher dew points and a more instability — but the risk is still there and worth watching.
