Another Oklahoma earthquake; a 5.6 this time

At 10:53 PM tonight a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook Oklahoma  and was felt in surrounding states.  The epicenter was 4 miles E of Sparks, OK.  Reports of feeling the quake came in from Quincy, IL and Lawrence, KS.

Tonight’s earthquake was the most powerful one in Oklahoma history.  In 1952 a 5.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded near El Reno.

The latest rumbling makes 2 recorded earthquakes and 7 aftershocks for Oklahoma today.  The first quake was felt at 2am this morning, a 4.7 mag.

Lincoln County emergency managers are reporting significant damage in their area.

 

Update:  6:36 PM Sunday

Following the 5.6 mag earthquake, there have been15 aftershocks recorded ranging from 2.7 to 4.0 in magnitude.
