Our weather is far from boring

I can’t really consider our weather pattern the past week totally boring.  Last Monday was pretty exciting.  6 tornado touchdowns were reported in Oklahoma on November 7th.  The first one, a confirmed EF4, would be the first tornado of that strength to strike Oklahoma during the month of November.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to chase on that day.

There’s also a preliminary report of a touchdown on the 8th near Valliant, but the NWS has not confirmed it yet.

A total of 110 tornadoes have struck Oklahoma so far this year, making it the 2nd most active year on record.  1999 retains in the number 1 spot.

In the map below, you can see the locations of the November 7th tornadoes.

Needless to say, it was an exciting day for a lot of chasers who were able to follow the storms.  In fact, a couple of them had close calls.

The earthquake continued to be a hot topic this week.  Since the “big one”, a 5.6 magnitude last weekend, we’ve had 28 aftershocks.  a couple of them happened DURING the severe weather on Monday.  Only in Oklahoma.

This week is going to be more typical, 60s and 70s for daytime highs and 40s and 50s for nightime lows.  We could see a couple of colder nights later in the week when overnight lows could dip into the mid 30s.
