Significant rainfall expected over the next few days. Flash flooding possible.

Storm development in western Oklahoma didn’t materialize early enough to warrant a chase today.  It’s okay though.  I have a busy day at the office tomorrow and can’t miss the day.  So, it was probably best that I stayed home and got some things done around here.

We’re not out of the woods though.  Locally, the threat for severe weather isn’t out of the question.  Over the next few days, we have a chance of severe weather and locally heavy rainfall.  The greatest risk appears to be flash flooding, hail and maybe some strong winds.

We can expect near 5″ of rain here in Tulsa before the system moves out of the area on Wednesday.  Flooding will be of major concern and emergency managers have been advised to ready water rescue equipment and crews.

Creeks and rivers will rise and overtake roadways and it doesn’t take much water to carry a vehicle away.  Each year people get stranded and some die because they thought they could make across rushing water.  It’s not worth the risk.  Remember:  “Turn around.  Don’t drown.”

This is a shaping up to be a major storm system.  Even though the risk for tornadoes is low, there will be enough other hazards to warrant watching the weather conditions closely.
