Let’s think about this Syrian thing

I agree.  The above image is heart wrenching.  But, I think we need to give some serious thought about the happenings in Syria before we do something we’ll regret.
Honestly, I have mixed emotions about the U.S. getting involved in the Syrian conflict.  Yes, it’s clearly obvious that the Bashar al-Assad regime has used chemical weapons on Syrians.  I get that.  But, why should we continue to be the police force for the middle-east?  Can’t another country take the lead this time?
This situation is beginning to look like another Iraq conflict.  Remember, we began that war to remove a dictator who had gassed his citizens and to find and destroy non-existent “weapons of mass destruction.”

Regardless of our past history, the White House is getting ready for yet another intervention, by sending missile ready war ships to the Mediterranean Sea to await the strike order.  Apparently the United Kingdom is making similar preparations.

Russia and Iran, both with strained U.S. relationships, have basically told the United States to stay out of it.  Now, I’m not one to listen to the mind-numbing rhetoric of either country, but the reality of the situation is worth careful consideration before we act.   Let’s face it, we can’t afford another war.  The defense budgets have been cut.  Troops have been cut.

Can we take military action and ensure a quick and successful result?  Can we do it without engaging us in an all-out Middle East war?  Do we have the resources to even marginally manage a multi-front conflict?  I realize I’m just John Q. Public, but I have some major concerns.

If the decision is to take action against Assad, then we need to be extremely cautious and recognize the potential consequences of such an action.

As I’ve said before:  we have enough problems here at home.  We should be concentrating on those.  Of course, an Obama war would shift focus from his blunders here in the states, wouldn’t it?  Maybe that’s the plan.
