It was both exciting and a little sad for me.  My daughter graduated from Wichita State yesterday.  Exciting because I know it’s another chapter in her book of life.  Yet it was a little sad as I realized a chapter closed on mine.  She’s no longer my little girl.

Every parent wishes that their children will do better than they did.  You wish them more opportunity, more happiness.  My children have already accomplished that.  And I’m extremely proud of their accomplishments.  But, over the last few years, the calls to “Daddy” have become less frequent and replaced with calls to “Dad.”  Bitter-sweet.

While my children pave their own way, watching them with pride as they do, I will continue down my own path.  Although my little girls aren’t holding my hand any longer when we walk side-by-side, they continue to hold my heart.  They always will.  A piece of me will always be their Daddy.
