There’s absolutely no way to sugar coat this: it’s going to be an extremely hot week. Temps will be near or above 100° all week. A heat advisory has already been issued from noon today until 9 pm tonight. I’m expecting heat advisories to be issued each day.
It’s the heat index that causes all the trouble. Although today the temperatures will be a cool 98°, the heat indices will climb to 108°. And that’s the same story for tomorrow.
Nighttime temps won’t give us much relief either. Temps will only drop into the upper 70s and low 80s.
It’s August in Oklahoma, I guess this is to be expected. I don’t like it, but it’s expected.
Remember:
- Never leave your children or pets in a car – running or not.
- Get your pets into shade or air conditioning and give them plenty of cold water.
- If you must work outdoors, take plenty of breaks and hydrate with water – even if you’re not thirsty.
- Check on your elderly family and neighbors.
Be safe and take care of each other.
