Update: Winter Storm dud in Tulsa

12/8/18, 5:30 am UPDATE:  If you were one of the folks in Tulsa who likes the snow, you’re not going to be happy this morning.  Forecasters had this one all wrong.  Snow chances in Tulsa are near zero this morning.  If we see anything, it’ll be a dusting.

Maybe next time.

We remain under a Winter Storm Advisory until Sunday Morning, although I’m not sure why.

It will be cold though.  High temps are expected in the mid 30s today.

Snow or no snow, I’m still putting on the vegetable soup for supper.

12/7/18, 5:20 am UPDATE:  Forecasted snowfall amounts have diminished.  1/2″ snow is possible in Tulsa.  Not quite the blanket of the white stuff I was hoping for.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for most of the state, including Tulsa.  This watch is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday evening.

This is what the NWS is forecasting:

Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 6 inches, and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch are possible. The most likely area for the locally heavier snow amounts will be over the higher terrain of northwest Arkansas.

The system will move into the area on Friday, beginning with very cold rain, turning to mostly snow by Saturday.  Accumulations here in Tulsa could total 3 inches, but local meteorologists are forecasting more – in the 3-5″ range.  Temperatures will be at or below freezing during this period.  It’s gonna stick.

If you have travel plans this weekend, check road conditions before you go out, especially if you’re planning to head west.  Some locations in NW Oklahoma could see 8-10″ accumulations.

I’ll post an update if weather forecasts change.
