Severe weather expected in NE Oklahoma today

4:00 pm update

We did have a few tornado warnings for NE Oklahoma before the line of storms moved east. I’m not getting any reports of major damage, but it’s still early and that could change. At least for Tulsa. South of Lawton a tornado caused major damage to the area. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

Locally, I think we’re done with storms for today, although there’s still a slight risk something will pop up this evening. I’m voting for quiet.

Mayfest, which had been postponed earlier today, is back in full swing. So, if you had plans to attend today and got rained out, you’ll still have a few hours to enjoy the festival.

Have a great evening!

11:12 am update

Our first tornado warning for the area. In effect until 11:45.

I’ve been hearing rumors that today and Monday would be good chase days. I’m not convinced, but I’m looking at the models and forecasts anyway.

A tornado watch has been issued for much of eastern Oklahoma. It’s in effect until 5 pm. Regardless of what it looks like now, take the time to get your shelter area ready and make sure you have more than one way to get notifications from the National Weather Service or your local media outlets. And, as I reminded my Twitter followers earlier, the sirens are not intended to warn you when you’re indoors. Don’t depend on those for your notifiations.

So, stay tuned to the weather today. Things could heat up quickly. I’ll update this post when needed, but don’t depend on me to get your warnings.

Stay safe and take care of each other.
