At 8:23 p.m. CDT President Trump sent this message, “Something very big has just happened!”.

Shortly after this Tweet, a news conference was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday.

Media outlets immediately began trying to figure out what did happen. It’s assumed that Iraq leaked the results of a special ops mission, and the media began reporting that an ISIS leader had been killed.

This morning, that was confirmed.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the ruthless leader of ISIS, was killed in a raid carried out by U.S. special forces. Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest during the attack killing himself along with three of his own children. DNA testing confirmed it was al-Baghdadi.

No American assets were lost and no personnel were injured during the raid, although the President did mention that a military K-9 may have suffered some injury.

Few lawmakers were notified of the raid, fearing the operation would be leaked. Understandably, Democrat leaders were not notified for that reason.

Domestically, there’s no indication that our threat level has changed because of this event.

Watch the announcement.
