selective focus of white snowflakes

We didn’t get as much ice here as I thought we would. That’s a good thing. Mom Nature did grace us with almost 6″ of the white stuff overnight and that is expected to begin tapering off today. Maybe an inch or two of additional snowfall is expected.

The Winter Storm Warning has been extended and will now expire at 9 a.m. tomorrow. ODOT is discouraging travel today. Wind chills will likely be below zero this morning. Temps will only reach 19F today, so don’t expect a warm-up until tomorrow.

Let’s give the road crews time to clean up the roads some. Stay home if you can.

We didn’t get the ice here in Tulsa this morning we had expected, but that wasn’t the case north of us. We did get enough freezing rain to form a thin coat of ice on elevated surfaces. I still stayed home.

Governor Stitt has declared a State of Emergency for all of Oklahoma.

We are still expecting a bit of snow later today and tomorrow. Maybe we’ll luck out this time. A winter storm warming remains in effect until tomorrow night.

Stay safe and warm. It’s going to be a cold couple of days.

The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area. It’s in effect beginning at midnight tonight and will be in effect until Thursday at midnight.

Oh fun.

The NWS has issued a winter storm watch for most of the region, including Tulsa. This watch is in effect from Tuesday night until Thursday evening. A mix of ice and snow with significant accumulation is likely.

We’ve actually had a rather mild winter, so far. That is going to change this week.

After a couple mild days with high temps in the 50s and 60s, the temps will drop and with that the chances of rain, freezing rain, sleet and, yes, snow will arrive here at the homestead.

The rain will begin on Tuesday and the rain will turn to freezing rain and sleet overnight with lows in the upper 20s. On Wednesday, the freezing rain and sleet will change to snow and the chances of snow will continue through Thursday evening. Total storm accumulation will probably be between 3 and 6 inches.

As you know, forecasting winter weather more than a couple days in advance is tricky and there’s a lot of factors that come into play. But the potential for a significant winter storm is here and whatever we end up with will likely cause travel problems. If you have travel plans for the week, check the weather forecast and road conditions before you head out.

I’ll update this post when necessary.

Stay warm, be safe and take care of each other.
