A line of storms is moving into Tulsa. Quarter sized hail and damaging winds possible. Winds to 80 mph. It looks nasty. Better get the radar up and running.
11:42 pm. Sirens are sounding due to the severity of the winds. Wow.
12:19 Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Tulsa. In effect until 12:45 AM.
12:24 am. Lights are flickering. The wind is beginning to blow. Sirens are sounding.
The wind is terrible. It’s not a tornado, but it sure sounds like one. Horizonal rain.
12:38 am. The Internet is out.
I went dark for a few minutes, but the power came back on. Switching to using my phone for internet. Tulsa police scanner if offline now.
12:40 A tornado warning was issued for areas just north of me. Fortunately, that didn’t happen here. That was a crazy storm and it’s still producing. Storms are moving to the east, we should be all clear soon.
1:20 am Tulsa police are reporting power lines and trees are down and blocking roadways city wide. Just south of me, winds were reported to be 110 mph.
2:00 am 88,000 without power now. That number is expected to grow as reports come in. The storms have moved off to the east. I’m going to get some sleep.
7:12 am I’m waking up to coffee and the news. Still no internet. The new time is 8:30 to be restored. 155,000 are without power across Tulsa County. I’ll do a walk-around in a bit to see if I have any damage here at Rose Rock.
7:38 am more than 50 trees are reported down along the river trails. Park service is estimating 1 to 2 weeks to clean it up.
9:25 am The internet is still down. Cox isn’t committing to a restore time now. Must be bad. Still running off of my phone, as I’m sure most people are. I’m sure I’ll surpass the maximum. Oh well.
11:43 Walked the perimeter and there’s no obvious damage to my house. Just branches from the trees. That’s a good thing.
12:14 pm Tulsa Mayor Bynum declared a disaster emergency for Tulsa.
5:29 pm Well, the cleanup in Tulsa continues. Outdoors all you hear are chainsaws. I went to fill up the truck and power is out all over. I’ll get gas tomorrow. The NWS has now classified the event as a Derecho. A Derecho is a long-lasting straight-line wind event.
This will be my last update on this. Stay safe, folks.
P.S. No, I still don’t have internet or cable. I guess I’ll miss the premier of the new Walking Dead show.
