Isaac, now a Cat 1 hurricane, is making landfall in Louisiana.  The pressure is at 968mb and packing sustained winds of 80 mph.  Wind gusts are much higher.  Isaac isn’t moving very fast:  movement is to the NW at 8 mph.  He’s dumping up to 1” of rain per hour.  Some areas could see 2 ft. of rain by the time this concludes.  Excessive rain and a storm surge to 12 feet are creating a dangerous situation for the Gulf coast.

Expected to last for hours, wind damage along with major flooding will be the primary risks.  Tornadoes can’t be ruled out either.  A tornado watch is in effect until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow for portions of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

It’s been reported that up to 250,000 electric customers are without power now.  That number is expected to climb as the storm rages on.

There’s a good chance that this storm will bring rain into Oklahoma, and the Tulsa area, as Isaac travels to the north.  If the storm stays on the forecasted track, our chance for precipitation will increase Thursday night into Friday.
