Severe weather likely, tornadoes possible

If you live in Oklahoma, this will be a good day to make sure your weather radio has fresh batteries and your shelter-in-place location is ready.  If you don’t have a weather radio, get one.  Severe weather is expected today.

I’ve been looking at the models and forecasts this morning and I’m expecting severe thunderstorms to develop in Oklahoma through the day as the cold front moves through.  The greatest risk will be gusty winds and large hail, but there’s an elevated risk of tornadoes as well.

In the Tulsa area, the onset for severe storms will probably be after 9:00 pm tonight and continue through the overnight hours.  These storms will have the ability to produce tornadoes.

This is from the NWS forecast office:

When the cold front moves through, temps will drop drastically.  After highs near 80 today, we’ll see temps fall into the low 40s by morning with wind chill values in the low 30s.  Tomorrow’s high is expected to only reach 45°.

I’ll post more when I can.  But, all indications are pointing to getting ready for severe weather tonight.
