A Somali terrorist group with ties to al-Qaeda has released a video threatening the west with shopping mall attacks. The Mall of America has heightened security in the wake of the video release.
Checking the website of the Department of Homeland Security gives no details nor warnings for such an attack. But that didn’t stop DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson from politicising the threat on several national news networks today. Maybe threats of an attack will get the DHS out-of-control budget approved? Apparently that’s what Johnson is after. It’s about politics, not safety of the homeland.
This DHS bullshit pisses me off. Put Johnson in his place and cut their budget.
I realize they should only warn us of credible threats. I get that. But, isn’t a video from a known terrorist group threatening specific targets in the United States credible? Maybe they need to listen in on grandma’s phone calls to see if it is.
The DHS focus should be protecting us from outside forces and informing the public of threats in an official manner. Not spying on citizens and making television rounds to lobby for approval of a ridiculous budget. In a New York Times article about the threat, Johnson is quoted, “It’s absurd that we’re even having this conversation about Congress’s inability to fund Homeland Security in these challenging times.” Really?
“If you see something, say something.” Bullshit. If you see something, protect yourself and your family. The feds aren’t going to do it. They don’t have the budget.
