Chance of storms and cooler weather coming to Oklahoma

I know it’s been hot. That fact is normal for August in Oklahoma. Hot and humid. That’s going to change – after today.

The heat index today is expected to reach 110F this afternoon. Fortunately I was able to get the lawns mowed early this morning. It’s 12:21 now and it’s already 89F with a heat index of 103F. Quite miserable. The NWS issued a excessive heat warning earlier today and it’s in effect until 8:00 this evening.

I’m also looking at the forecast for severe storms this evening, probably after 7:00. The risks being discussed include the mention of tornadoes, heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and flooding. It could be a storm-filled evening as storms develop ahead of an approaching cold front.

Yes, Tulsa is in the enhanced risk area.

Cooler weather is expected for the rest of the week, with low temps in the 60s and high temps in the 80s. Storm chances return next weekend.

So, if you are outdoors today, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks. If you’re going to be out and about this evening, take an umbrella and stay weather aware. It could be a bumpy evening.

Stay safe and take care of each other.
