It’s still hot, but relief is in the forecast

In this god-awful heat I did take a little road trip up north to visit the kids and to hug the grandbabies. It wasn’t any cooler up there. Over 100F each day. I didn’t spend a lot of time outdoors. I had a great time though. The last time I visited them, I had an ice storm to deal with. This time the extreme heat. I need to plan a trip when the weather is more enjoyable. I’ll have to plan another trip for this fall when the weather isn’t so extreme.

Heat be damned, I was able to have two big dinners with everyone – both of my daughters, my sons-in-law, and all five grandchildren. That doesn’t happen often enough.

Friday night we went to Abuelo’s and then had drinks at the hotel with my daughter and son-in-law, and two of my granddaughters. I enjoyed the time. I may have been a little tipsy by the time I crawled to my room. Drinks at Abuelo’s and then at the hotel did the expected damage. It wasn’t long before I was in bed and snoring.

Saturday, I went with three of my grandchildren (and their mom and dad) to Exploration Place to get my steps in. They had a great time and I enjoyed watching them bounce around the exhibits. We followed that with a PB&J picnic lunch at my hotel. It was too hot to picnic at a park, so we commandeered a large table in the dining area. How the heck kids can have so much energy is beyond me. I’m sure my children were the same when they were their age. I was younger then.

Saturday night we shook up Outback. Eron, my son-in-law, wasn’t able to join us at Outback. His band was entertaining the masses. He was missed.

These trips are never long enough. I headed back home this morning. I’d planned on taking a different route home to take some pictures, but it was just too hot. The thought of being out in 104F weather shooting pictures tired me. I’ve become a wuss.

Now I’m just lounging some and thinking I should probably unpack. Eh, that can wait. I am taking some time to look at the upcoming forecast and write this post.

Is a cooldown coming? Maybe a small one.

We may actually get a few days of cooler weather next week. Chances of rain begin Wednesday night and temps will drop into the upper 80s by the weekend. We’re even forecasting a greater chance of rain for the weekend! We need both rain and cooler temps desperately. But we have to get through a few more days of temps above the century mark first. It’ll drop below 100 on Thursday. That’s something to look forward to.

For next few days, this is what we have to look forward to. We’ll probably have heat advisories and warnings most of the week.

Hang in there, my friends. We’ll get through this.
